
Todd Dawson is a Vice President at CIRCADIAN with a special focus on research and technology. He started working at CIRCADIAN in 1994 after successfully completing research at Harvard University on the effects of night and shiftwork on the human hormone cortisol. During his time at CIRCADIAN he has been involved in all aspects of the company including consulting, training, research and publications.
Todd has become an expert in the rail industry regarding crew fatigue and scheduling. He managed the Canadian Rail Alertness Assurance Project which successfully analyzed freight traffic patterns and matched crews to windows to create a predictable crew schedule. He has also gained significant experience in the rail transit industry on projects with Amtrak, GO Transit, Toronto Transit and New Jersey Transit.
Todd’s wide range of experience includes management of schedule optimization, fatigue risk assessment and operations assessments in multiple industries including, mining, transportation, food processing, oil and gas and pulp/paper.
Todd leads CIRCADIAN’s world-class research team in developing assessments and solutions for the wide range of challenges confronting companies with extended hours operations. Current research focus areas include employee health, employee demographics, and operations management best practices. He also oversees the development and assessment of new technologies, including the Flexible Workforce Management System (FWMS), Freight Rail Crew Optimization System (FRCOS), Circadian Alertness Simulation (CAS), Shiftwork Adaptation Testing System (SATs), and microsleep prediction systems (including alertness monitoring technologies).
